| We are very pleased to have been awarded a
small individual grant from 'Vital Villages', which is to be used to find out what groups
and individuals really want from proposed changes to the hall. Letters and questionnaires are being sent out; discussions and focus groups will be held, probably culminating in a public meeting, with ultimately a plan being submitted to 'Vital Villages' and hopefully approval and further grant assistance. The results of that survey are now available and a summary of the findings is available by clicking on this link. |
| Description |
| The village hall was built in 1967 on land
granted by Miss Claire Verney. It is run entirely by a voluntary management committee. The hall was refurbished in 1995, when following subsidence, the roof, doors, and windows were replaced. Full oil central heating replaced the old electric fan heaters in early 1999 following a major fund raising effort. The interior of the hall was redecorated throughout, in June/July 2000. The Hall was again refurbished in 2006 with an extension to and complete refit of the kitchen, and the provision of disabled toilet facities. |

Lighthorne Village Hall Management Committee MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, 5 MAY 2006
Present: David Wright (Chair), Carol Smith, Sarah Douglas, Jane Stroud, Martin Thornton, Geoff Barrett, Brian Lewis, Noel Hunter, Paul Tait, Peter Amis, Lucy Tooke and 19 members of the public. 1. Apologies: Martin Preedy 2. Minutes of the previous AGM held on 25th May 2005: Agreed. Proposed Sheila Barrett, seconded Derek Petley. 3. Matters Arising: The Chairman pointed out that all our plans had successfully materialised, with the only failure being the mailshot. 4. Chair's report: Refurbishment This time last year we had completed the move of the Post Office and made one grant application. The project is now complete, which is very good progress to make in the space of one year. Thanks to all involved for their hard work, especially Paul Tait who has made an enormous contribution. All present were invited to inspect the improvements. This year’s activities The table tennis club has been restarted, thanks to the efforts of Anne Such. The Film Club – the brainchild of Martin Thornton – is doing well under the capable management of the subcommittee of Martin, Jane Stroud, Peter Amis and Noel Hunter. The joint effort with the Parish Council of the Christmas Lunch was very well received, thanks to Jane Stroud and Josette Tait for their hard work. These two ladies are also responsible for the monthly Lunch Club which has earned over £300 this year. Thanks go to Penny Amis for her efforts with Live and Local events which are enthusiastically supported and enjoyed. Burns Night and the 100 Club were also valuable contributors to the Hall’s income. Thanks go to Noel Hunter and Martin Preedy for their efforts here. It is vital that we continue our activities and fundraising just to keep the Hall open, but we will be in need of extra funds for new projects such as floor sanding, seat cushions and legislative requirements like the oil tank bunding. Finally, thanks to all the committee and supporters. 5. Treasurer's Report: The accounts were presented. Lettings were down on last year due to the loss of the weekly Yoga class booking, which had brought in £510, and being closed for two months during refurbishment. The money paid out for break-in repairs shows as an expense but the insurance reimbursement will not show as a receipt until next year’s accounts. The accounts were adopted, proposed Penny Amis, seconded Geoff Barrett. 6. Election of committee: All members were willing to stand again, proposed by Penny Amis, seconded by John Tooke. 7. AOB Thanks were proposed to the committee and Chairman from Penny Amis, as a user of the facilities. This was seconded by the Chairman of the Drama Group, Russell Douglas, who added that the committee’s efforts were greatly appreciated. Thanks to Noel Hunter and Jane Stroud for providing the cheese and wine.
The meeting closed at 8.30 p.m. |
